Alameda County DA Pamela Price Addresses Backlog Criticism Amid Recall Efforts

Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price is defending her office against criticism related to a backlog of over 1,000 misdemeanor cases. Price says the issue was discovered in mid-July and blames the backlog on previous management under former DA Nancy O’Malley, citing manual tracking errors.

Price’s team has worked since August to address the delays, implementing a model that previously helped reduce domestic violence case backlogs. Despite increasing staff and efforts to improve the case management system, Price acknowledges there’s no clear estimate for when the issue will be resolved.

The criticism comes as she faces a recall vote in November, with critics questioning her effectiveness and decisions. San Francisco DA Brooke Jenkins has criticized Price’s hiring of inexperienced prosecutors, accusing her of compromising regional safety.

Price dismissed Jenkins’s remarks, emphasizing her focus on resolving inherited issues and accusing detractors of creating a false narrative to undermine her work.
