A family is filing a lawsuit against a former Poway Unified School District staffer, accusing him of abusing their 5-year-old autistic son. Connor is mostly nonverbal, and other teachers say that before the interactions with the educational specialist, he was a happy kid. Kathie W, the boy’s mother, says she noticed changes in his behavior, which she later attributed to the alleged abuse by his teacher. The teacher, 63-year-old James Reed, resigned in February after an investigation was initiated following reports that he physically abused and assaulted the 5-year-old. The family has since moved their son to a different school.
