A Santa Monica police officer who was stabbed in an unprovoked attack on Saturday afternoon is out of the hospital. The officer was released Sunday and is now recovering at home, one day after he was stabbed multiple times in front of police headquarters.

The officer, while retreating from the attacker, was able to pull out his gun, open fire and kill him.
