California is officially apologizing for the damage inflicted by slavery and discrimination on Black Californians. Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom sign the apology Thursday, along with a number of other bills suggested by the state’s reparations task force. The task force, created four years ago, has spent months researching how racism affected the descendants of enslaved people. The state’s Black Caucus Chair Lori Wilson called the move “a meaningful foundation to address historic injustices.”
