California Governor Gavin Newsom is expanding gun restrictions in his state. He signed several measures related to controlling the use of guns.
One bill allows the court to consider stalking, threats of violence, or animal cruelty as grounds for a gun violence restraining order. Such an order would keep firearms out of the hands of the offender. Another law targets so-called “Ghost Guns” by giving law enforcement the power to prohibit vendors from selling guns that are meant to be destroyed. One additional bill signed by Newsom bans fake gunfire and fake blood from active shooter drills at public schools.
Many, if not all, of the new laws are expected to be challenged in court.
