California Governor Gavin Newsom is using this week’s Georgia school shooting to call for an assault weapon ban. He blasted Republicans for creating a culture where guns are glorified.
He was critical of judges who have opposed the state’s gun laws, singling out Federal Judge Roger Benitez. It was just last year that he ruled, again, that the state’s decades-old ban on semi-automatic weapons violated the Second Amendment. Police in Georgia say the 14-year-old shooting suspect used an “AR-Style” weapon to murder four people at his high school.
