An increase in the homeless population in one Contra Costa city has the mayor calling out San Francisco and Oakland, saying “we will not be a dumping ground.”  Antioch Mayor Lamar Hernandez-Thorpe believes homeless people are moving to Antioch from bigger cities as those cities clear out their unhoused.

According to the mayor’s office in San Francisco, they are not sending people to Antioch. Thorpe, in the meantime, says the city is thinking about making it tougher to camp in public areas and also looking at ways to turn hotels into temporary housing. Antioch has the most unhoused residents in Contra Costa County.
