California lawmakers are bringing a bill back to the floor that would allow for the early release of some felons from prison. The bill, which was shelved in a previous legislative session, would allow for the release of felons who have served at least 25 years of a life sentence since 1990. The rule would apply to convicted murderers as well. Serial killers and those who have killed police officers would not be eligible. A crime victims’ representative has sent a letter to the Assembly asking members to vote no on the bill. It is unclear if and when the bill will come up for a full vote.
