The acting Secret Service director says the agents found to be at fault in the assassination attempt on Donald Trump will be held accountable.
In a briefing Friday, Ronald Rowe said local law enforcement did nothing wrong on that day, adding that it was his agency that failed. Rowe told reporters Trump’s security detail didn’t know the shooter was on the building with a gun until he opened fire, and admitted agents should have been positioned atop the structure.
He also admitted local law enforcement tried to notify agents about the shooter, but there was a problem with communication. The agency has faced bi-partisan criticism after the event, and its former director resigned in the days that followed.
Trump nearly missed the assassin’s bullet when shots were fired at the stage from a nearby rooftop during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last month. One person was killed and two were wounded.
