A new cash payment program in San Francisco will incentivize addicts to stay clean. San Franciscans could receive up to 100-dollars per week for abstaining from drugs under the new “Cash Not Drugs” legislation.
Mayor London Breed says the legislation has the potential to remedy the city’s drug crisis. The “Cash Not Drugs” program would help people in the San Francisco County Adult Assistance Program who have been identified with substance use disorders and referred for treatment.
The city will give weekly payouts to CAAP recipients who stay away from illegal drugs. The payouts could start small and go up to 100-dollars for those who continue to abstain from illegal drugs. CAAP recipients with housing already can get up to $712 per month. Homeless recipients receive a reduced grant of $109 per month.
