An ongoing dispute between the U.S. and World Anti-Doping Agencies could result in Los Angeles losing the 2028 Summer Olympic Games.  U.S. officials and Team USA swimmers have been publicly critical of the World Anti-Doping Agency for allowing 23 Chinese swimmers who tested positive for a banned substance to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Those swimmers won three gold medals in Tokyo and eleven of them are competing in Paris.  The International Olympic Committee has warned U.S. officials that the 2028 games in L.A., as well as the 2034 Salt Lake City Winter Games, could be pulled if WADA’s authority is not respected.
