Oppressive heat is headed to Southern California.  The National Weather Service says the high temperatures will pick up today and Saturday.  Anywhere inland of Downtown Los Angeles will experience warming, with 93 to 103 degrees common for highs.  Excessive heat warnings are in place for the Antelope and Santa Clarita Valleys through Wednesday, where the mercury is expected to hit 110 degrees.

It’s been super hot in Northern California this month. There’s been 14 non-consecutive days with temperatures reaching at least 100 degrees, and we might break the record of 17 days set in 2000. We’ve also had nine non-consecutive days with temperatures reaching at least 105 degrees, getting close to the record of ten days set in 1988. The average temperature for July 1st through the 17th this year was 104-point-two degrees, higher than the typical average for the whole month of July, which is just barely over 94 degrees. A cool down across the region could change the month’s average.
