Secretary Pete Buttigieg is pledging to help Los Angeles prepare for the 2028 Olympics. He joined L.A. Mayor Karen Bass and other leaders at the Memorial Coliseum yesterday to celebrate federal funding for public transportation projects.
The city is expecting to receive about 900-million dollars in federal help for now. A large sum of it will go toward a subway line extension and building light rail on the Westside and in the San Fernando Valley. But officials now want to also dramatically increase the number of buses in the city. This comes after a previous plan to lean heavily on the rail system for the Olympics was abandoned because it would be too expensive and time consuming. Buttigieg says there is a possibility L.A. could get even more federal funding in the future.
