California is the first state to ban school rules on gender notification. Governor Newsom signed that bill yesterday. It means teachers are not required to tell parents if their child changes their name or pronouns, or if they join programs that don’t match their official gender. This will protect teachers from retaliation who don’t want to out transgender students. The law also offers resources to families about how to have these conversations privately.
