If California Governor Gavin Newsom were to become the Democratic Party’s candidate for President, it might be an uphill run. Cal Matters points out his approval rating is 35 percent, down from 50 a year ago.  With violent crime on the rise in California and people, as well as businesses, leaving the state, some say a tough record to defend. And his appeal in swing states is unknown. A hypothetical poll released on Monday from Emerson College indicated Newsom would lose to Donald Trump by eight percentage points, a margin twice that of President Biden’s deficit.
