Some U.C. Berkeley parents are taking matters into their own hands when it comes to keeping their kids safe around campus. A coalition of parents known as “Safe Bears” has hired a security team of six individuals to help patrol near the campus starting this week.
The new patrol “ambassadors” aren’t armed but have been trained in how to de-escalate situations. Parents say they are tired of bringing safety concerns to U.C. Berkeley officials only to be told there’s nothing that can be done to improve safety.
