Two people were arrested after they were caught in the act, allegedly “fishing” for mail. Police in Palos Verdes Estates say the two were looking for checks in U.S. Postal Service drop boxes.

Officers say they seized equipment and stolen checks during the arrest. “Mailbox fishing” refers to a tactic that involves thieves dropping a string into a mailbox chute to snag and retrieve letters and packages in hopes of finding checks or personal financial information.
