The Southern California to Las Vegas high-speed rail project just got an injection of funding.

Just over a month after awarding a $3-billion federal grant, the U.S. Department of Transportation is approving two-and-a-half billion dollars in bonds for the estimated 12-billion-dollar plan. Combined, the project has received $6.5 billion in support from the federal government – more than half of the estimated $12 billion price tag.

Brightline West will feature fully electric trains that will travel from Rancho Cucamonga to Las Vegas.

Metrolink will connect a large section of Southern California to the Rancho Cucamonga station.

Planners hope to have the line completed in time for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, although studies have previously pointed to a 2026 groundbreaking date, with passenger service beginning in 2030.
