California gun stores could soon be required to display warning signs, similar to what you would see on tobacco products. Senator Catherine Blakespear, a Democrat from Encinitas, authored the bill which she believes will help reduce gun violence in the state.
Some elected leaders believe the new bill would warn people about the dangers of having a firearm in their home. The warning essentially says having a gun in your home could dramatically increase the risk of gun violence.
While California has some of the toughest gun laws in the country, mass shootings are on the rise. The Public Policy Institute of California claims a mass shooting has happened every six days in the state this year. The bill has passed the State Assembly and Senate and is now on Governor Newsom’s desk for final approval.
