Betty Yee Announces Governor Run
(San Francisco, CA) — Former Controller Betty Yee has announced that she’s running for governor of California in 2026, giving lieutenant governor Eleni Kounalakis some competition just hours after she announced her campaign. Yee currently serves as vice chair of the California Democratic Party. She termed out of office as controller earlier this year. The Alameda resident says she plans to focus on economic and climate issues. If she wins, she would become the state’s first female and the first person of color elected to the role. Yee and Kounalakis both announced their intention to run at a 2019 Sacramento Press Club event.
