(Hemet, CA) — The city of Hemet is suing Southern California Edison over damages that happened during last year’s Fairview fire. Officials allege the utility’s equipment sparked the fatal fire and damaged city property. The suit claims Edison didn’t keep the landscape around its equipment properly trimmed. SCE admitted there was “circuit activity” near the spot where dry brush caught fire and quickly spread. The Fairview fire burned in September of last year. It forced residents and their animals out of their homes. Two people were killed and more than two dozen structures were destroyed.
