Family Of Slain “Rust” Crew Member Reacts To Baldwin Charges
(Santa Fe, NM) — The family of the crew member killed on the set of the film “Rust” is reacting to charges being filed against Alec Baldwin. An attorney released a statement on behalf of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’s family after Baldwin was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. The statement said, “It is a comfort to the family that, in New Mexico, no one is above the law.” Hutchins was shot and killed when Baldwin fired a prop gun loaded with a real bullet. The statement added, “We support the charges” and “will fully cooperate with this prosecution.”

Baldwin says he merely pulled the hammer back and the gun somehow went off. The F-B-I says however – the gun could not have fired unless the trigger was pulled. Baldwin’s attorney says his client had no reason to think there was a live round in the prop gun. Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is also facing the same charges as Baldwin. Asst. Director Dave Halls had signed a plea deal – pleading guilty to negligent use of a deadly weapon. With a gun enhancement on one of the charges – the punishment could be up to five years in prison.
Baldwin’s Lawyer: We Will Fight These Charges & We Will Win
(Santa Fe, NM) — Alec Baldwin’s lawyer says the actor had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the prop gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film “Rust.” Baldwin was charged today in New Mexico with two counts of involuntary manslaughter for Hutchins’ death. Attorney Luke Nikas said his client had no reason to think live rounds were anywhere on the movie set. Nikas said Baldwin relied on the professionals he was working with, who assured him the gun didn’t have live rounds. He added they’ll fight these charges and come out on top.

That’s according to the special prosecutor appointed to hear the case that has led to charges against Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. They’re being charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting that left Halyna Hutchins dead in 2021. Andrea Reeb claimed “the evidence clearly shows a pattern of criminal disregard for safety on the ‘Rust’ film set.”
