(San Diego, CA) — The state and the federal government are offering up to two thousand dollars to pay off water bills. California is getting 116-million dollars from the federal government to pass on to those who qualify for water bill payments across the state. The Union Tribune says the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program will run through August of next year, with both homeowners and renters eligible. California has seen the average water bill go up 56-percent between 2014 and 2020, and some agencies, like the city of San Diego, have not resumed water shutoffs coming out of the pandemic, leaving the city with 71 million dollars in unpaid water bills.
