The Los Angeles homeless mess: Undercounted and your tax dollars WASTED and UNSPENT

A new L-A Times report says the three main homeless services agencies in Los Angeles failed to spend about 150-million-dollars in federal grant money between 2015 and 2020. The report says all of the unspent cash was returned to the U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development. The L-A Homeless Services Authority returned more than 29-million-dollars, the city’s Housing Authority returned more than 82-million-dollars, and the County Development Authority returned nearly 38-million bucks. The agencies cite issues with funding flexibility – meaning spending rules, trouble with the rental market, and a lack of available housing. New numbers show most people in L-A temporary housing do not move into permanent housing Around one fifth of people living in interim housing shelters in L-A moved into permanent housing over the last fiscal year. That’s according to data released by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority today. LAHSA says that number doubled since 2019. Of course, the means four-fifths of the 20-thousand people using intern housing did not go into permanent housing. It also comes as more politicians are doubting LAHSA’s data.
