(San Diego, CA) — California is creating a new warning system for heat waves. Right at the end of the two-week heat wave that saw the state issue ten straight flex alerts and come close to the first rolling blackouts in two years, California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a new state law creating a ranking and warning system for extreme heat, similar to other natural disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes. The Sacramento Bee says it will be the first system adopted in the country and will be in place by January 1st, 2025.
