Poll Shows CA Voters Want Newsom Over Biden

(Berkeley, CA) — A new poll looks to handicap the 2024 election in California. The U-C Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll finds little appetite for a rematch between President Biden and former President Trump. Neither candidate is favored by voters with six-in-ten saying Biden should not try for a second term. Trump was even less popular at 7-in-10 opposed. The L-A Times reports there is no clear favorite for Dems this early but Governor Gavin Newsom is gaining traction. Vice President Kamala Harris trails Newsom and Senator Bernie Sanders among California voters if Biden decides not to run. The mid-August poll also finds 66-percent of California republicans either strongly or somewhat favor former President Trump making another run for the White House.
