CHP’s Max Enforcement Period Continues

(Los Angeles, CA) — The California Highway Patrol continues to ramp up patrols throughout the state over the Fourth of July weekend. The CHP’s maximum enforcement period started Friday at 6 p.m. and concludes Monday at 11:59 p.m. Officers will be looking for drunk- and drug-impaired drivers as well as motorists traveling above speed limits. During last year’s M-E-P, nearly one-thousand motorists were arrested statewide on suspicion of D-U-I. Officials say 43 people were killed in crashes across California during the 2021 Independence Day weekend.

Southland Cities Cancelling Fireworks Shows

(Los Angeles, CA) — A handful of Southland communities will not be celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks shows. The cancellations come after a California state investigation into the company hired to provide pyrotechnics discovered the firm was operating with fake licenses and homemade explosives. La Puente Mayor Charlie Klinakis says he and other city leaders have an Independence Day event featuring a laser show. Other cities being forced to cancel fireworks shows are Lancaster, Palmdale and Lynwood. Claremont is cancelling its’ pyrotechnic shows due to fears of brush fires.
