(Vatican City) — Pope Francis is defending his decision to not name Russian President Vladimir Putin in his condemnation of the war against Ukraine. The Pontiff told a newspaper in Argentina — “A Pope never names a head of state, much less a country, which is superior to its head of state.” He said the Vatican is working hard to encourage an end to the war behind the scenes.
