(Pasadena, CA) — The homeless man wanted on suspicion of fatally stabbing a 24-year-old UCLA graduate student at an upscale furniture store in Hancock Park is behind bars. Shawn Smith was arrested last week in Old Town Pasadena shortly after a man saw the suspect near Fair Oaks and Colorado boulevards. Detectives believe Smith walked into the Croft House furniture store on La Brea Boulevard on January 13th and murdered Brianna Kupfer. While working alone at the store — Kupfer texted a friend that someone inside the business was “giving her a bad vibe.” Kupfer was found dead by a customer a few moments later. Police say the victim and suspect did not know each other. A motive for the stabbing is still not known.
