Study: Love Black Coffee, Dark Chocolate? It’s In Your Genes

(Chicago, IL) — A new study says black coffee drinkers and dark chocolate lovers may have a genetic basis behind those preferences. Caffeine researcher Marilyn Cornelis from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine said that genetic trait may provide a boost toward good health. Cornelis said the gene helps those with it associate the bitter flavor of black coffee with the boost in mental alertness they get from caffeine. Future studies, according to Cornelis, will focus on the genetic preference for other bitter foods which can be linked to more health benefits.
