(Undated) — In less than a month, the COVID Omicron variant has gone from being discovered to becoming the dominant strain of the virus in the U.S. The CDC released updated figures Monday saying the new, more-transmissible variant now accounts for more than 73 percent of new cases nationwide as of the week ending December 18th. That’s up from just under 13 percent the week prior. While officials are preparing for an Omicron wave of COVID cases, experts say if you’re vaccinated and boosted, you are well protected against severe disease.
