(Washington, DC) — President Biden is tapping some big names to serve as U.S. ambassadors. Biden is selecting former Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan to serve as the ambassador to Belize. He has also picked Carolina Kennedy to serve as ambassador to Australia. Kennedy was the ambassador to Japan during the Obama Administration. The nominations now await Senate confirmation. Senators are approving a large number of President Biden’s nominations for ambassador posts after working into the wee hours of the morning Saturday. Among the ambassadors approved to serve are former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel as ambassador to Japan, Claire Cronin as ambassador to Ireland and Denise Campbell Bauer as ambassador to France. They were just some of at least 40 nominations that were confirmed in the marathon of votes. The slate had been delayed as some Republican senators had objected to voting on the nominations before Friday.
