Appearing on Fox News Sunday, the West Virginia Democrat said that he tried “everything humanly possible” to work with the legislation. Manchin cited concerns over inflation, the federal debt and a surge in COVID-19 infections as his main reasons for not supporting the legislation. Appearing on CNN Face the Nation, the Vermont Independent said Manchin has a lot of explaining to do” to the people of West Virginia for his refusal to pass President Biden’s social spending legislation. Sanders added that Manchin didn’t have the “guts” to take on lobbyists and big money interests. Despite Manchin’s decision essentially killing the Build Back Better bill, Sanders insisted the vote continue, saying “Let him vote no in front of the entire world.”
