(San Francisco, CA) — San Francisco Mayor London Breed is declaring a State of Emergency in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Breed says the declaration will bypass bureaucratic barriers and allow the City to quickly respond to the drug problems that are affecting the health and safety of Tenderloin residents. She adds that waiving zoning and planning codes will enable the opening of a temporary site where people with substance use issues can get off the street and get help. At least two people a day are dying of drug overdoses in SF, mostly to fentanyl, and mainly in the Tenderloin and South of Market areas.
