In Politician’s Manic Effort To Keep You Out Of Your Cars, Speed limits could be dropping on streets across Los Angeles once the calendar turns to 2022. The method for setting speed limits is getting an adjustment. Right now, the city sets speed limits based on the so-called “85-percent” rule. Every few years, surveyors set up at a street, monitor how fast drivers are going, and set a new speed limit at the 85th percentile of the data. Butt. That includes business areas with heavy foot traffic, and areas with a history of pedestrian collisions. Six-hundred-forty pedestrians were killed on L.A.’s streets between 2016 and 2020.
More proof that elected officials are committed to making it much harder for you to drive. Mercilessly so.
