U.C. Davis Study Finds Dogs Get Stressed From Household Sounds

(Davis, CA) — Firecrackers are common stress noises for dogs, but so are microwave ovens. A recent study at U.C. Davis found beeping microwave ovens, car alarms, vacuum cleaners, and even a crying child can be a major source of stress for some canines. Many owners have no idea these everyday sounds can increase anxiety levels in dogs. Researchers say there are many telltale signs that dogs are stressed by certain sounds. They include hiding, trembling, panting, pacing, a stiff body, and barking. If a dog exhibits any of these behaviors, it’s best to help them find a quiet place where they can calm down.
