Moderna: COVID Vax Benefit Outweighs Risk
(Cambridge, MA) — Moderna claims the pros of its COVID-19 vaccine outweighs the risk of a rare heart condition. The company says the risk of myocarditis is trumped by protection the vaccine provides against severe disease, hospitalization and death as a result of coronavirus. The rare heart inflammation has been reported among a small number of young men who have gotten the Moderna shot. The FDA is considering whether to authorize the vaccine for children ages 12 to 17, as it takes a closer look into those reports. That’s according to Moderna Chief Medical Officer Paul Burton, who says those cases are higher among those who got the Moderna shot compared to individuals who got Pfizer.
