(Menlo Park, CA) — Facebook is going to shut down its facial recognition program. The company which now goes by the name Meta made the announcement in a blog post. Its VP of Artificial Intelligence wrote those who opted in won’t be recognized in photos and videos anymore. The facial recognition templates of more than a billion people will also be deleted. The official noted it’s part of a move by Meta to cut down the overall use of facial recognition.
