(Ventura, CA) — A pair of California legislators plan to propose a state law aimed at ending gun shows at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. State Senator Monique Limon of Santa Barbara and Assemblymember Steve Bennett of Ventura — both Democrats — say the bill would prohibit gun shows at the state-owned fairgrounds. Limon and Bennett believe state property should not be used for the sale of firearms. The Ventura County Fair board of directors last week postponed a controversial debate on whether to continue the longtime firearms events.
Crossroads of the West of Utah has been renting space at the Ventura fairgrounds to stage gun shows for more than ten years. An event earlier this month drew around five-thousand people. Crossroads owner Bob Templeton warns — if the bill becomes law — it will be challenged in court.
