(Burbank, CA) — The ABC police drama “The Rookie” is banning live weapons on its set following last week’s fatal shooting in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Cinematographer Halyna ] Hutchins was fatally shot with a prop gun by Alec Baldwin on the set of a Western titled “Rust.” Series showrunner Alexi Hawley informed ABC executives that production will no longer use quarter or half-loads during filming. Hawley wrote in a memo that the “safety of our cast and crew is too important. Any risk is too much risk.” He added that there’s “zero reason to use live rounds.” It’s not known if other movie and TV productions will make similar changes in the wake of the New Mexico shooting.
