(Sacramento, CA) — Governor Gavin Newsom signed an Executive Order yesterday (as suggested by John Phillips and his callers Tuesday) aimed at easing supply chain congestion at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Newsom said in a statement, apparently just noticing the supply chain chaos: “California’s ports are critical to our local, state and national economies and the state is taking action to support goods movement in the face of global disruptions.” The executive order calls on state agencies to find state-owned properties and other locations that could help alleviate short-term storage needs for shipping containers. The Governor also wants to identify priority freight routes that could be temporarily exempted from vehicle weight limits to allow them to carry more goods. Longer-term solutions that will bolster port operations and the movement of goods are also in the works. Those plans will be considered in governor’s next budget due out in January. JANUARY???
