U.S. At Risk Of Severe Flu Season Despite All-time LOW Last year

(Undated) — The CDC director–who has made a number of flip-flops this year–is concerned the U.S. could face a severe flu season this year. Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said during a White House press briefing that the U.S. population may have reduced immunity against influenza after seasonal flu cases reached an all-time low last year. There were around two-thousand flu cases last year during influenza season, a drastic decrease from the estimated 35-million the year before. Walensky asked Americans to get shots for both COVID and the flu, saying vaccinations are important to end the pandemic and prevent other diseases. An increase in flu cases could add more stress to the nation’s health-care system, as the Department of Health and Human Services says almost 70-thousand people are currently in inpatient beds with COVID.
