(Washington, DC) –As a reported 60,000 more Haitian refugees are moving toward the porous southern border, lawmakers are looking into the surge of Haitian refugees at the U.S.-Mexican border. New York Democrat Gregory Meeks opened a virtual House briefing and cited terrible conditions in Haiti. He said the U.S. policy on Haiti is outdated and should be changed. Florida Republican Maria Elvira Salazar argued the treatment of Haitian refugees at the U.S. border is atrocious.

An NBC report says the U.S. knew in advance about Haitian Migrants heading to the Texas Border. According to the report, in an epic fail, three U.S. officials said the U.S. knew in July, but failed to share intelligence while also debating whether to increase deportations, leaving them unprepared to handle the almost 30-thousand who recently gathered on a Texas bridge. At least three groups had knowledge as far back as July that large groups of Haitians were making their way north to the U.S. border from South and Central America. Intelligence was not shared widely enough within the DHS and across agencies to tell the size or speed the group would arrive. The officials said the Department of Homeland Security had acknowledged the failures internally and used them to prep for future occurrences, yet have really not apologized or otherwise publicly atoned, and no one in authority has been fired for this obvious debacle.
