(Washington, DC) — NASA is almost ready to intentionally crash a spacecraft into an asteroid as part of a test. The Double Asteroid Redirection Test , or DART, launches next month from Vanderberg Space Force Base in California. A process known as a kinetic impactor technique will attempt to launch the spacecraft at an asteroid around 15-thousand miles per hour in an attempt to alter its trajectory. While not a threat to Earth, the asteroid will pass close enough to conduct the test.
