(Buena Park, CA) — “Ankle biter” mosquitoes are becoming more common in Orange County. Orange County Vector Control says the species known as the aedes mosquito has now been detected in all 34 cities in the county. Officials say the mosquitoes bite at all times of the day, and are multiplying, with no sign of going away soon. Warm weather and standing water keeps the mosquitoes breeding. Recently, Orange County confirmed its first West Nile Virus case of the year, after a woman in Buena Park was infected. Health officials say her case was serious.
