(Sacramento, CA) — More than five-point-four million Californians have voted so far in the recall election to determine Governor Gavin Newsom’s fate. That means nearly one-quarter of all the ballots sent out have now been returned, according to Political Data Inc. Of the returned ballots, 53-percent are from registered Democrats, 24-percent are from registered Republicans, and 22-percent are from independent voters with no party affiliation. The early returns show Democrats outperforming their registration numbers –keep in mind, roughly 20% of recall signatures were from Democrats–while Republican voting is on the same pace as their numbers. Many in-person voting centers will be opening this weekend. The last day of voting is September 14th.
