(Sacramento, CA) — There will be no camping, hiking or biking on federal forest lands in California. With 15 active wildfires raging across the state, the Sacramento Bee reports the U.S. Forest Service is shutting down access to all 20 million acres of California’s national forests for two weeks, starting tomorrow. The paper cites a notice from California’s regional forester, Jennifer Eberlien, who said the temporary closure is necessary “to provide public and firefighter safety.” Wildfires have charred more than one-point-76 million acres in California since January 1st.
