Biden On Afghanistan: “It’s Time To End This War”

(Washington, DC) — “It’s time to end this war.” So said a defiant President Biden at the White House as he once again defended the withdrawal of remaining U.S. troops from Afghanistan. Biden acknowledged images from around the Kabul airport have been heartbreaking and gut-wrenching as thousands of Afghans try to flee the country. He cited “significant progress” in the massive evacuation effort and called it one of the largest and most difficult airlifts in history. Biden said thousands are being successfully evacuated, including Americans and Afghans who have helped the U.S. for roughly 20 years.

The President praised the U.S. military and said there are roughly six-thousand troops on the ground at the airport. Biden pledged that “any American who wants to come home, we will get you home.” He also rejected a hand-picked reporter’s question about whether the U.S. is losing credibility with allies around the world. Biden said he has seen no evidence of that, though multiple media outlets doubt the accuracy of that statement.
