(Washington, DC) — Senator Dianne Feinstein says she is not going anywhere. The California Democrat is 87 and is the Senate’s oldest member. She told CNN she plans to fill out her term, which expires in 2024. Those comments came after California Governor Gavin Newsom told MSNBC he would appoint a Black woman to replace Feinstein if she retires before her term expires. Democrat Newsom faced criticism for not replacing Kamala Harris with another Black woman when she was elected vice president.
Newsom selected California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to replace Harris. The governor is facing a recall in California over his management of the coronavirus crisis.
