(Los Angeles, CA) — A Hawthorne man was sentenced to 212 years in federal prison for what the judge called an “evil and diabolical” insurance fraud scheme. This after the the death of his two severely autistic sons and the attempted murder of his ex-wife. Ali Elmezayen drove the two boys and ex-wife off a pier at the Port of Los Angeles to collect money on accidental death policies. Prosecutors said he planned the scheme for two years and had taken out seven-million dollars in life insurance and accidental death insurance with eight different companies. He was convicted of more than a dozen federal charges including wire fraud and money laundering and is also facing murder charges in Los Angeles Superior Court.
